Final Evaluation

My portfolio was very good, but it hadsome strengths and some weaknesses. a clear weakness is that all my pages used docstoc, and nothing more. Docstoc is a program where documents can be uploaded, where they can then be embeded in my wiki so that the viewer can read them. This is very interestiong, but the fact that i used it for all my artifacts may seem montonous. I could hae used voice thread or other tools to help enhane the feel of my wiki, which is always a benefit.Also, my blog home page isnt as exceptional as i wanted it to be. A homepage is important, it helps give the viewer the first impression and overall feel of the website, so if its not attractive chances are people wont want to view the rest of the blog. These were the main weaknesses, but they dont have a very harsh effect as my wiki was good, in general terms.

Some clear strengths was the pages that were filled, and the fact tha each page had information that was relevant, and not just random pictures etc. good example is my personal statement, which wasnt required for the unit. however i did it becaused ifeel a person must be presonified ont ehir wiki, if not there isnt a real point. Another advantage or strength in my wiki is the use of videos. My wiki has the about me video which i believe turned out great, as it covered importanyt aspects of my life diligiantly. The other video is animoto, its easy to use and also povs effective as it adds the 'hip' in my wiki.


I believ i worked well this unit. i used my class tie efficiently and asked several carefully thoughout questions whic i was able to benefit from. I think the time i didnt use to my advantage was the filming time. My video is clearly mostly based at home, this is because my class time wasnt used to the best and i was therefore prone to doing a lot of filming at home. but i think what made me able to accomplish the filiming was my focus in class.

Homo faber basically means man-made, this portfolio relates to that. without the innovation required in homo faber, our modern day world wouldnt be the same, this wiki revolves around those guidelines. My wiki was made to help epople lear more about me, and have a better undertsand of my school and some personal hobbies etc. This portfolio was created for the world to see, and afetr that they will gain, which essentialy what homo faber does. My family enjoyed reading my portfolio, they were able to see my school life and how i porgressed. they also saw which artifacts i did wel and which could have been better.

Overall, it was fun making the portfolio, but what is even better is looking at it when its finally done.

Aya's Wiki

I like the blue color, it's catchy and will make me (as a reader) want to surf some more. The video on the homepage is great, it helps the person learn more about you. The pictures are nice, especially the one with Salman. I think having the inspiration document on a different page would be better, as the homepage should be brief, simple and make the viewer want to learn more.

The other pages are completed, good job on finishing them early. they all have the artifacts and reflections, as well as documents out of a hyperlink which is usually very dull. I think the most interesting page you built was the Arts page, a video is always interesting, the one you did for music was a nice addition. The other pages were all pretty good, but not as good as the music one.

Overall I liked the portfolio, but remember to put your name somewhere on the homepage, and not in the personal statement only, as sometimes people might not be bothered to look at it. Random-7 is a nice name, but i think it should have been something with more informative things like your school username etc. But it was nice reading it, the video was also pretty good.

Reflection: Math Investigation, Porabolas

What?

Our new unit was about Porabolas, we usually begin with investigations (this helps us understand the concept in our own way). The Investigation isnt hard, when the concept is understood and so i did it. it is important in an investigation to address all the given situations, and when the way to solving them is found, it must also be addressed, in depth. An investigation is basically like writing a manual where the answer is not as important as method leading to it.

We did the investigation on the 2nd of April, right before the holiday. we were given the investigation the previous week and it was due right before the holiday.

So what?

An investigation is always significant and is usually very important, it accounts for about 35% of our grade. i did well on this investigation earning one of the top marks in the class. my invstigations are usually very good, so i wasnt as proud of this as others since it wasnt my best effort. Investigations always help give an insightful view of an aspect of any unit in math and in this case it was porabolas. Math is one of my favorite subjects, and so i tried to choose something to show how i like it. I also chose this investigation because I have always been fond of graphs and different functions.


Now what?

Well, to be honest i think its hard for a write up to organise my time and make me use it efficiently. But i think that by working on anything on your own time, always makes you more efficient as the work will be finished without any rush. I have always been able to do math, this investigation helped show that i understand the concept behind the new unit, which is the basic ida behind the investigation. An investigation also helps boots my confidence for any unit, as it always gives a slight head start in learning. I think the knowledge of porabloas will be essential if i ever took physics as a main goal or subject that i will pursue, or even to help me understand how to shoot a basketball, a sport which i enjoy playing.

Plan: My Video

The video i will be creating will incorporate many aspects of my childhood.

It wil begin with an introduction of who i am, in it there wil be a brief overview on my childhood.

Then my video will include this: (in this order)

- Who am I?

- School Life

- Outside Life

- How it made me a better Person

I will begin filming my video on the 17th of April, 2008.

New wiki: Rubric

Using wikispaces, we made new wiki's, which are basically digital portfolios. I found it easy and enjoyable as it didnt consume a lot of time, nore does it need any effort to create in the beggining. But as the syaing goes, succcess is measured by effort so working hard on the website should make it better.

We also made a rubric, so that we can evaluate our work. Also, a rubric helps us understand what level we should be in, and how to improve the work we have, so when it is graded it will be good.

Task 3

HTML

Being the old and dull, or classic way of making a webpage, this 'way' may prove to be very tiering and daunting. although it was a good way, or basically the only way, it is obvious that programs such as dreamweaver made it easier as what you see is what you get. Now, i would say this way isnt a very good way of making a website, as it will consume a lot of time and wont be very easy to make. Today, we have programs that allow us to make websites in a more efficient manner.



Dreamweaver and Frontpage:



These programs have obvious advantages to the old way of making websites. the most important is the fact that using Dreamweaver and Frontpage will allow for a 'what you see is what you get' creation of a website. this helps, as it is now easier to lay out information and pictures, also the overall organization will be weasier to edit. The only problem with these progrmas is the fact that the 'webpage' is saved on the comoputer, and we therefore need to buy a space from the internet to upload it.

Wikis are similar to dreamweaver and frontpage, but the good thing is the fact they are on the internet and so after one finishes a page, it ill be on the internet, and wont need uploading.

These are three ways in which a digital portfolio is important:

To whom it may conern: What is a Digital Portfolio?

-A digital portfolio is goal-based collection of reflections. the main idea of a portfolio is to show someone's growth and to show how they have developed in different areas.

- A digital portfolio shows a students achievments in and out of school, even achievments within the community, these things can be viewed by teachers and parents, bbut for different reasons of course.

-A digital Portfolio can also help give an idea of the students personal life, as the reflections can show some of his likes and dislikes. This allows them to display a wide variety of materials and content, which is a good overal view of a students educational life.

The advantages and disadvantages of a digital Portfolio:


- A great advantage of a digital Portfolio is the display of many ideas and documents in a very clear way to access, rather than have them in hard copys, one can display most of their work in one area, or can split them under sections where they are easily accessable.

- A disadvantage is the fact that most digital portfolios can easily be copied and pasted under someone else's name, thus provoking plagarism.

Marielle's digital Portfolio

Although Marielle's portfolio is nice, it is also kind of plain because the white background isnt that nice.


- Another point that i dont find interesting in Marielle's portfolio is the fact that in her main page she provides a lot of answers and questions, I dont find that appealing because the main page should be more introductory than work-based.

- I only like the fact the fact that she answers questions properly, as her blog is almost very dull.

Task 1

Vince's Portfolio

I enjoyed reading Vince's portfolio, he had spent some effort in it and made it look good!

- The Portfolio is full of content regarding school, and all the lessons are covered within the portfolio. Vincent also has a great opening page, the headings attract people and the jovial, friendly language and tone provides a good read. Vincent covers most school subjects, (i.e. bangla, english, French and Math).

- The Portfolio is quite organized, and it is is organized for easy access from the reader. The links are mostly on the left side and they are all under sutable headings, which shows organization. The Portfolio's colors arent very interesting, the dark green doesnt look appealing, especially with the orange text.

- Its nice to see other people's blogs, especially ones like Vincent's which have been mad with some hard work and care. I like the ovverall view of the portfolio and the mood it set me in, but i have to admit the colors werent that appealing.

Animoto is a lot of fun to use, as well, I dont need to put a lot of effort in remixing and making a video, all I have to do is select several pictures from Googl/images and WOW! An amazing video!

- we can video science experiments for further reflection and evaluation, and better results.

- it makes videos easier, so if there is a video (pictures) we can use it more efficiently than other programs.
